Anyways, here are some of the best things happening in Kitchener-Waterloo this weekend!

Saturday, July 1

Canada150 Country Music Concert at City Hall

What is it? The City of Kitchener is once again organizing one of the biggest Canada Day events in the area! The biggest difference this year is the bands they’re bringing in; the music this year is going to be all country, all night! The James Barker Band, one of Canada’s hottest new country bands, will be headlining the event, but there will also several other great country artists, including some local ones. And of course, there will food vendors, a licensed area and an expanded fireworks show off the roof of City Hall.

When does it start? Local country singer-songwriter Jessie T. will kick off the festivities at 5pm, while the James Barker Band are set to take the stage at 9pm. The fireworks will start around 10:15pm.

Where is it happening? Kitchener City Hall in downtown Kitchener

How much does it cost? $0 – this is a FREE event!

Why should you go? This is the best place to celebrate Canada Day if you’re a country music fan. If you’re not into the music, you can always just wait for the fireworks too, because that’s a darn good show in its own right!

Canada150 at Rhapsody

What is it? While Kitchener City Hall will feature an all-country-music lineup, Rhapsody Barrel Bar is going in a different direction and making themselves the place to go for a funky Canada Day. They’ll also have their own lineup of great artists, including headliner Sharon Musgrave. That name probably doesn’t sound familiar, but trust us, she’s worth seeing live.

When does it start? 9pm

How much does it cost? $0 to get in, but you’ll need to pay for any drinks and food

Where is it happening? Rhapsody Barrel Bar in downtown Kitchener

Why should you go? If you’re looking for a more intimate atmosphere and want something unique for #Canada150, Rhapsody is where you’ll want to be! Plus, it’s close enough to City Hall, so you can always sneak out for fireworks before or during the show!

Canada150: Trivia Night at the Bomber

Photo: Facebook

What is it? This is the first of a series of events for Canada Day being organized by the UW International and Canadian Student network (ICSN) for Canada Day. Like their group, the night is all about celebrating the things that make us Canadian and unite us. We can drink to that!

When does it start? 6:30pm

How much does it cost? $0 – this is a FREE event!

Where is it happening? The Bombshelter Pub at the University of Waterloo

Why should you go? Trivia nights are always fun, but there’s no better time to test your Canadian knowledge than for our country’s 150th!

Canada150 at Columbia Lake

What is it? There aren’t many better ways to celebrate Canada Day than at Columbia Lake for the University of Waterloo’s epic party. It’s always a good time, but this year is sure to be especially awesome. Not only is it Canada’s 150th, it’s also the university’s 60th year, so they’re going to be pulling all the stops. Canadian icon Tom Cochrane will be headlining the event, and there will also be a special cultural stage added this year featuring local cultural organizations, Tamil, Chinese Musical performances and indigenous content. And of course, once again, the fireworks here will be pretty unforgettable too.

When does it start? 4pm, but you can really show up any time throughout the evening.

How much does it cost? $0 – this is a FREE event!

Where is it happening? Columbia Lake near the University of Waterloo.

Why should you go? There won’t be a more exciting place for #Canada150 in Waterloo than Columbia Lake! There’s just so much going on. And we don’t know about you, but singing Life is a Highway with Tom Cochrane and a huge crowd sounds like a pretty good way to celebrate the day!
