Anyways, here are some of the best things happening in Kitchener-Waterloo this weekend!

Friday, June 16

Hip Hop Night at The Bomber

What is it? The University of Waterloo’s Hip Hop Club is celebrating 15 years with a Hip Hop night at the Bombshelter Pub!

When does it start? 9:30 p.m.

Where is it happening? The Bombshelter Pub – 200 University Ave, Waterloo

How much does it cost? $3 for club members, and $5 non-members. Food is included in the price (They will serve appetizers at 10 p.m. until supplies run out).

Why should you go? For great beats, food, and a pretty cheap night!

Ladies Night Live 2 Air with 91.5 theBeat

What is it? Ladies Night at Wax Nightclub… do we really need to explain this one to you?

When does it start? 10 p.m.

How much does it cost? After 11 p.m., the cover charge is $3. But ladies AND students get in for free all night. Drinks are $2.75.

Where is it happening? Wax Nightclub – 125 King St W, Kitchener

Why should you go? For a cheap good time!

Saturday, June 17

The Deep Cut Film Festival

What is it? A new festival in Kitchener that’s all about… well, films. 35 of them in fact. Yup, you read that right. It’s an entire day’s worth of short films from around the world, and they are ALL off the wall. But all of them are also very good. You can watch four or five for a few hours, or spend the entire watching all of them. It’s up to you.

When does it start? The first block of films kicks off at 12:30 p.m.

Where is it happening? The Registry Theatre in downtown Kitchener.

How much does it cost? $15 for an all-day pass, but you can also pay a cash donation of however much you’d like to stick to just a few of the films.

Why should you go? These are outstanding films. And you can watch all 35 of them for the same price as a Cineplex movie ticket. Now that’s value. Trust us, if you like great movies, you’ll have a good time at this festival.

5th Annual Solstice Sampling Food + Drink Festival

What is it? It’s a festival in Uptown Waterloo to sample some amazing food from eight different local restaurants. You purchase tickets for food and drinks, and after that it’s all about trying some of the best food in Waterloo. Local artist Rufus will be performing.

When does it start? 5 p.m.

Where is it happening? Uptown Waterloo – Waterloo Public Square

How much does it cost? $5 for entry, and food tickets are $1 each.

Why should you go? Who doesn’t enjoy trying out new food? And it’s a lot cheaper (and fun!) than going out to eat at restaurant or cafe.

Life & Rhymes with Ramsay Almighty & Friends

What is it? Ever wanted to know how hip-hop artists create their raps and songs? This event will give you a glimpse into that creative process as Ramsay Almighty unpacks hip-hop music through beat making, freestyle and acoustic live performance.

When does it start? 8 p.m.

Where is it happening? Downtown Kitchener – Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts

How much does it cost? General admission is $20, and $15 for Students

Why should you go? Well first off, Ramsay is pretty f***ing awesome. And we don’t know about you, but getting a sneak peek at what’s like to be a rapper sounds really cool. It’s a unique performance you won’t really see anywhere else.

Sunday, June 18

Open Streets

What is it? This is the start of a series of events all about promoting getting people out of their houses and socializing with one another right on the streets. This year, it’s taking place along the various trails in Uptown Waterloo, and there will be all kinds of activities happening like a human library where you can ‘borrow’ a book, spoken word performances, and giant battleship (No, we’re not kidding).

When does it start? 12 p.m.

Where is it happening? Uptown Waterloo BIA – 100 Regina St. S, Waterloo.

How much does it cost? Nada. Zip. Zilch. A big ol’ $0.

Why should you go? It’s free, and there’s a ton to do. Bring a friend, walk around, and enjoy a relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Father’s Day BBQ: in support of ScrewCancer

What is it? A Father’s Day event hosted by Descendents Beer and Beverage Co. with live music, games, prizes, BBQ & beer that also supports the Grand River Hospital Foundation.

When does it start? 11 a.m.

Where is it happening? Descendants Beer and Beverage Co. – 319 Victoria St N, Kitchener

How much does it cost? Free to enter, and a ton of food & craft beer to enjoy, including a Sausage & Pint Combo for $10. You can also purchase a Screw Cancer screwdriver and 40% of the proceeds get directly donated to the hospital foundation.

Why should you go? This is a great event to bring Dad to while also making a real difference!

Hops for Pops! Father’s Day Beer Festival

What is it? A craft beer festival for Dad! Bring the old man for drink samples, food trucks, live music, and so much more.

When does it start? 11 a.m.

Where is it happening? Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village10 Huron Road, Kitchener

How much does it cost? $25

Why should you go? We can’t think of a better way to spend Father’s Day than tasting beers. This is definitely an event you can bring the whole family to as well!
